'Green Redmond' Celebration Planned For September

Redmond, WA – Past, present, or future supporters are invited to celebrate ten years of the Green Redmond Partnership on Thursday, September 19 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Farrel-McWhirter Park located at 19545 NE Redmond Road. It is a drop-in event with snacks and games in celebration of the Green Redmond accomplishments.

“The success of the Green Redmond Partnership is a testament to the dedicated volunteers and community members who care for Redmond’s urban forests,” said Mayor John Marchione. “The effort and hours devoted to forest restoration through this partnership provide years of benefits and continues to emphasize the importance that the community places on increasing our tree canopy.”

The partnership between the City of Redmond and Forterra has worked on the removal of non-native, invasive plants and planting native trees and shrubs in forested parkland throughout the City of Redmond since 2009. Over the past ten years, Green Redmond’s staff and Forest Stewards have led 538 work parties and engaged 11,124 volunteers. These volunteers have logged 29,874 hours caring for Redmond’s forests. They have installed 11,946 native trees and 23,550 shrubs and other plants and are responsible for 407 acres in active restoration.
