Hancock's Bakery Claims Title in Hopelink's March Can Madness Food Drive

's March Can Madness brought in more than 9,800 pounds of food to its Redmond-based foodbank, the nonprofit organization announced earlier this week.

is a competition modeled after the NCAA College Basketball Tournament that invites business to go head to head in collecting canned food items for needy families and individuals. Thirty Eastside businesses and organizations participated in this year's event.

in Redmond was the last business standing in this year's competition. The bakery collected 4,589 pounds of food — a 22 percent increase over its total in 2010, Hopelink said in a news release.

A Touch of Class Barbers in Kirkland was runner-up in the competition and brought in 1,400 pounds of food.
