Man With 3-Year-old Steals From Redmond Home Depot

When police pulled the 45-year-old over, they found the toddler without a seat belt, crawling over stolen goods.

REDMOND, WA — You might remember a few months ago when a man was pulled over in Redmond for speeding, and police found a baby sleeping in the backseat without a car seat (in fact, the man's Gatorade was strapped into the car seat).

But an even lower depth was reached in Redmond recently when police arrested a thief who took his 3-year-old along for the ride.

Just before 8 p.m. on May 30, a 45-year-old man ran out of the Northeast 76th Street Home Depot with a cart full of stolen merchandise. He hopped in his car and fled the scene. Redmond police tracked him down nearby and found:

"Police pulled the suspect over to find his small child unrestrained and crawling over the stolen merchandise in the back seat. The driver had no logical response when questioned on why in the world he would bring his kid on such a reckless endeavor," the Redmond police blotter reads.

There wasn't even a car seat in the car.

The man was taken to jail, the 3-year-old was taken to a family member's house.

Three people reported having their purses stolen out of their vehicles while they were loading purchases into their trunks. In each case the suspects snatched the purse while the victims were distracted and took off in a silver sedan. Some of the stolen credit cards were used soon after the thefts. Investigation is ongoing.

A 30-year-old male decided to keep a rental car past the return date and ignored repeated attempts from the rental company to bring the vehicle back. Officers located the stolen Nissan parked in front of the suspect's residence and arrested him on vehicle theft and for an outstanding warrant.

Police arrested a 33-year-old female on suspicion of stealing perfume and makeup from a local department store.

Employees at a local pawn shop called police after a male subject attempted to smash one of the display cases open with a rock. After unsuccessfully trying to break the glass, the suspect fled the store and took off in a waiting vehicle. Evidence gathered at the scene is being processed and the investigation is ongoing.

A delivery driver reported his iPad was stolen out of his company truck while he was briefly away dropping off a package The victim did not see the thief and no suspect information was available.
