Marymoor Park Assault: Police Arrest Suspect

REDMOND, WA - King County Sheriff's detectives have arrested a man in connection with a brutal assault that happened near Marymoor Park in August.

The detectives used DNA to find the suspect, Sgt. Cindi West said in a statement, but are not releasing any further details about the arrest. However, police have said that the suspect left shoes behind at the time of the attack.

The attack happened around 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 along the busy East Lake Sammamish Trail, near the southeast corner of Marymoor Park. A suspect jumped from bushes along the trail and began beating the woman, dislocating her shoulder when he tried to pin her arm behind her back.

The woman fought back, and was able to attract the attention of a passerby on the trail by screaming loudly. The passerby was able to scare the attacker off. The woman was treated for injuries at Overlake Hospital.

The attack touched off a manhunt, with police searching for a white male in this 40s. Police were worried about the brazenness of the crime, and that the attacker might strike again.

"For this person to do this in the middle of the daylight on a very commonly used trail is crazy," West told KOMO in August.
