The attack happened around 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 along the busy East Lake Sammamish Trail, near the southeast corner of Marymoor Park. The suspect jumped from bushes along the trail and began beating the woman, dislocating her shoulder when he tried to pin her arm behind her back.
According to KIRO, the man told the woman that he was going to kill her.

The woman fought back, and was able to attract the attention of a passerby on the trail by screaming loudly. The passerby was able to scare the attacker off. The woman was treated for injuries at Overlake Hospital.
The attack touched off a manhunt, with police searching for a white male in this 40s. Police were worried about the brazenness of the crime, and that the attacker might strike again.
