Microsoft Releases Figures On Sex Harassment Firings: Report

Court documents revealed this week that Microsoft found less than 1 percent of discrimination complaints valid, according to a report.

REDMOND, WA - Microsoft has released new figures about sexual harassment after court documents released this week revealed that the company sided with women in fewer than 1 percent of discrimination cases.

In an email to employees Thursday, Microsoft Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan revealed that the company had fired 20 employees for sexual harassment in 2017, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. Those firings came out of 83 sexual harassment investigations.

A group of employees is suing Microsoft for discrimination, the PSBJ reported this week. The employees are alleging the company did not respond to sexual harassment complaints adequately.

The revelations come during a time of heightened awareness about sexual harassment. The problem is particularly bad in the tech industry, which is dominated by men. A survey of women working in Silicon Valley revealed that 60 percent had experienced some type of unwanted sexual advance, and 1 in 3 women felt afraid for their safety due to workplace conditions.
