'Suspicious Letter' Prompts Evacuation Of Redmond Courthouse

A hazmat team is on scene at the courthouse investigating the contents of the letter.

REDMOND, WA - Redmond District Court was evacuated Tuesday morning over a suspicious letter, according to the King County Sheriff's Department. Just before noon, police said that the letter was found to contain no hazardous material, and the courthouse reopened.

A hazmat team was on scene at the court, 8601 160th Ave Northeast, investigating the incident. The Redmond courthouse is a division of King County District Court and serves Redmond, Skykomish, and Duvall.

It's unclear if the incident in Redmond was related to one at the Pierce County Jail and courthouse in Tacoma - a hazmat crew was on scene there around the same time on a report of a suspicious substance. A letter containing white powder was mailed to the building, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
