Redmond Historical Society receives 4Culture Collections Care grant

Historical Society; Redmond, WA nonprofits; historic preservation; digital archives

The Redmond Historical Society has received a new heritage collections care grant from 4Culture of King County—totaling $5,700—to digitize its extensive collection of the Sammamish Valley News (SVN), a local newspaper published weekly for nearly 100 years in Western Washington.

This is the second consecutive year that the Society has received funding for this project, to be completed in the first half of 2015. SmallTownPapers, a digital archiving company in Shelton, WA, continues to do the work of scanning the papers into high quality, searchable scans into an archive database. Last year, the Society shipped 2,825 pages of SVN newspapers to the Shelton-based company.

Currently the SVN archive, available through links on the Society’s website, covers individual papers from 1946 to 1967. The public can search by topic, or by person. The direct link to the archives is http://rhs.stparchive.com/.
