Redmond Light Rail: Redmond Releases Video Of Downtown Station Designs

The city has released a video describing four options for the downtown light rail stop.

REDMOND, WA - What flavor light rail station do you prefer - elevated or at-grade?

Redmond has created a video featuring four possible alignments for the forthcoming downtown Redmond light rail stop. Two of the designs are at-grade - at street level - and two are elevated. There are two different locations for the station shown in the video: one along Bear Creek Parkway between Leary Way Northeast and 161st Street; the other is just one block east along Northeast 75th Street between 164th and 166th avenues.

The reason the city is offering four options is to find the best way to integrate light rail with bus, pedestrian, and bicycle routes. The city is running a survey of citizens through Feb. 5 to gather input.

The Redmond light rail stops are part of the East Link light rail project, which will bring rail service to Mercer Island, Bellevue, and Redmond. There will be four stops total in Redmond, and the downtown station will be the last stop on the line.

Although light rail may come to Redmond as early as 2023, the downtown and southeast Redmond stops likely won't be complete until 2024. Those final two stops are part of the ST3 package, which was recently approved by voters in November 2016.
