Redmond Mother And Daughter Survive Vegas Mass Shooting

The pair fled when the shooting began, eventually finding refuge in an airport hangar.

REDMOND, WA - A Redmond High School freshman and her mother survived the mass shooting in Las Vegas, KIRO 7 reported. Claire Wick, 14, and her mother, Tracy Wick, were near the stage when the shooting began and a man close to them was shot. The pair took cover under an awning, but still weren't safe from the gunfire.

They then ran toward the airport where the hid in a hangar with the lights off. The pair were eventually evacuated to the University of Nevada's basketball arena where they were interviewed by detectives.

Other Washington residents were also directly affected by the shooting. Melinda Brockie, 31, a member of the Lummi Nation, was shot in the face and underwent surgery, according to a GoFundMe page set up for her. She is recovering in the intensive care unit. A Seattle woman originally from Bainbridge Island, Carrie Parsons, was also shot and later died of her wounds.

A couple from Maple Valley, meanwhile, were at the concert and were able to escape. Jennifer and Michael Morrison fled the concert when the shots started raining down on the crowd. Even after escaping the concert grounds, the Morrisons didn't stop running, they told the Seattle Times.

The Sunday night shooting is the deadliest in modern U.S. history. As of Tuesday morning, 59 people were dead and over 500 were injured. The shooter, Stephen Paddock, was firing on the concert from the 32nd story of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound before police broke into his hotel room.
