Redmond Police Go 'Nuts On National Doughnut Day

Fueled by Boston creme and sugar glaze, Redmond police are partying hard on National Doughnut Day.

REDMOND, WA - Whatever you think of the old stereotype about cops and doughnuts, the Redmond police department seems to be going out of its way to prove it true. For several days, Redmond police have been taking to social media to hype National Doughnut Day (which is today, Friday). The celebration reached an apex on Friday morning as police were seen exercising with doughnuts in hand and writing poetry in honor of the fried treats.

The doughnut-fanaticism began on Wednesday when the department tweeted a photo of a Bing (of course!) page with "doughnut shops in Redmond" typed in the search bar.

"You call it donut shopping, we call it tactical recon in preparation," the department wrote.

The frenzy escalated on Thursday when police tweeted a photo of an officer committing a serious crime: stealing a doughnut.

Perhaps driven mad by all the jelly and Boston creme, Redmond police on Friday began writing poems about doughnuts. A series of silly - or maybe brilliant? - doughnut haikus appeared on Twitter Friday.

The doughnut-day tweets appeared to subside around 9 a.m. Friday, perhaps due to a sugar crash. But there's no telling what Redmond police might do next.

Lock your doors, hide your doughnuts, and stay away from the Redmond Top Pot.
