Redmond Police Investigating String Of Downtown Burglaries

The same man is suspected in a number of burglaries that have occurred throughout January.

REDMOND, WA - Police are investigating connections between burglaries at a number of downtown-area buildings and a 31-year-old man who was arrested earlier this month for burglary.

Police say that six businesses were broken into along the 8600 block of 154th Avenue Northeast in early January. Police found that someone had entered office space, and then cut through walls to access other parts of the building. Police found remnants of human activity - food wrappers, tools - but did not find anyone in the building.

Meanwhile, on Jan. 9, police arrested a 31-year-old man sleeping inside the garage of an apartment building along the 8300 block of 158th Avenue Northeast. They found the man in possession of metal knuckles, shaved keys, and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary and other charges, but he was released from jail on Jan. 13.

That same suspect was found later that day sleeping inside a commercial complex along the 8600 block of 154th Avenue Northeast. Police say the man was found with burglary tools and drugs, and so they arrested him on suspicion of criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police are continuing to investigate the 31-year-old suspect for other burglaries in the downtown area. Police are also conducting outreach in the area to discuss how to secure buildings to prevent burglaries.
