Redmond Police: Scammers Posing As Officers On Dating Websites
Redmond Police said at least three people reported a scam involving someone posing as a police officer and trying to extort cash.

REDMOND, WA — Redmond detectives are investigating several incidents involving fraudsters posing as officers on popular dating websites, then conning money out of victims, police said Thursday. According to investigators, perpetrators used aggressive threats in an attempt to extort cash in at least three reported cases. In one instance, detectives said a scammer used an actual Redmond police officer's name.
Redmond Police said the con can be convincing, but officers will never demand payment over the phone in a legitimate exchange. According to detectives, Redmond's recent incidents are similar to other scams seen nationwide, where thieves pose as state, federal or local officials. Anyone who has been targeted by a similar hoax is asked to contact police at the non-emergency line: 425-556-2500.
