Redmond Senior Center Closes Due To Building Structure Problems
A recent assessment of the building's structural integrity revealed problems, so the city is closing the facility until further notice.
REDMOND, WA — The downtown senior center has been closed to due to concerns over the building's structural integrity, according to city officials.
The problem was first revealed in June when a panel fell off the exterior of the building. The city hired a structural engineering firm to assess the damage, and the inspectors confirmed "extensive structural damage to the exterior walls and substantial impact to both the lateral and gravity systems" this week.
The building will be closed until further notice, except to contractors and building inspectors. Senior center activities and other programs will be moved. A Redmond official said the city will provide updates via social media and the city website.
