Redmond Tent Encampment Seeks Volunteers For Woodinville Move

REDMOND, WA - Camp Unity Eastside's seasonal stay in Redmond is coming to an end, and the tent encampment is looking for volunteers to help move the village to a church in Woodinville. The move is tentatively scheduled to happen on Friday. The encampment is moving from Redmond's St. Jude Catholic church to Northshore United Church of Christ in Woodinville's Cottage Lake area.

The encampment moves every three to four months, and it's an especially stressful time for the residents. If you're interested in volunteering, contact Camp Unity Eastside at (425) 652-9170 or campunityeastside@gmail.com.

Living in a tent encampment is no picnic in the best of times. And once every 3 to 4 months, it gets especially hard – when it’s time to move the camp. Think of packing, moving, and setting up all of the personal tents, community tents, the shower, the washer and dryer, and all the other equipment and supplies in two days. As if that weren’t enough, think of doing it when you’re not feeling even close to 100% due to illness, lack of sleep and other stresses. Camp Unity depends on help from community volunteers to make the move successfully.

Tentative Schedule

Friday, May 26th

• 8 a.m. – Volunteers meet at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 10526 166th Ave NE Redmond, WA. 98052. Prep. Pack. Organize.
• 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. – Volunteers move camp to Northshore United Church of Christ, 168th Avenue Northeast, Woodinville, WA 98072

Saturday, May 27th

• 8 a.m. – Volunteers meet at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 10526 166th Ave NE Redmond, WA. 98052

What to bring:

• Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, sturdy shoes, gloves and rain gear if needed
• Bring personal water and snacks
• Lunch will most likely be provided.
• Tools: We could use several cordless drills, hammers, crow bars
• Trucks and trailers are greatly appreciated
• Kids are welcome
