Spring your skin into shape

Spring signals a change in weather, temperatures and climate-all of which affect our skin. Read our tips to maintain your radiant complexion

The season change can account for more than brighter weather and warmer temperatures; it can also cause unfamiliar changes in our skin. With an increase of allergens in the air, those who are prone to eczema and psoriasis are more susceptible to noticeable skin conditions. As the season transitions to beloved summertime, it’s important that our skin also makes the transition from colder temperatures.

We have compiled a few tips to help your skin spring into shape to maintain a radiant and healthy complexion. These tips are suitable for most skin-types, but for those with more serious skin conditions we always suggest consulting your dermatologist or skin-care specialist.

· Exfoliate

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells that sit on the skin’s surface, preventing your skin-care from effectively working. Without exfoliating, old skin cells build up and cause dryness and rough looking skin in addition to clogged pores that can lead to acne. Exfoliation takes form in many different methods depending upon your specific skin type and desired results. To avoid irritation, we suggest exfoliating once a week and avoiding apricot granule based scrubs that can actually tear at skin cells. For all skin types, we recommend the Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub that gently exfoliates with Corn Cob Meal leaving skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

· Switch up your skin-care regimen

Making a slight change to your current skin-care regimen could make all the difference. Restore dry or dehydrated skin with a moisture masque after cleansing. Masques with little to no artificial fragrance or color are most effective. For most skin types, we recommend the HydroPeptide Purifying Mask that firms skin, removes impurities, and minimizes pores all while restoring hydration.

· Moisturize

Perhaps one of the most essential steps of your daily skin-care routine is adding moisturizer. You should always chose a moisturizer best suited for your skin type as recommended by a skin care professional. If you are currently using a moisturizer but still feel that your skin is on the drier side, adding a serum can make all the difference. Serums are lightweight and are able to penetrate deeper and faster into the skin. When paired with a moisturizer they help maintain soft nourished skin. Dry skin can lead to premature wrinkles and uncomfortable itchy or flaky skin. Those with combination or oily skin are encouraged to incorporate a moisturizer as acne solutions can be drying. Avoid showering or washing your face with very hot water as this can cause further drying and irritation.

· Wear sun-screen

Maintain youthful and radiant skin by protecting it daily with sunscreen. The harsh rays of the sun may cause more than visible damage that can be easily avoided with sun protectant. While sun stimulated vitamin D is critical to health, it is equally critical to avoid the dangers of sun exposure, which can be responsible for wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, painful burn, and skin cancer. Caring for skin with SPF is essential, even when the weather appears overcast. Avoid these skin conditions and apply sunscreen daily. Our customer favorite is the HydroPeptide Solar Defense SPF 30 anti-aging sunscreen that auto-adjusts to your skin tone. The non-greasy formula pairs nicely with your daily moisturizer and/or makeup.

· Stress less

Stress can take a toll on our skin and it shows. Muscle tension and lack of nutrition can lead to dry, dull looking skin, as well as wrinkles. Drinking plenty of water is one of the most important steps to take in rejuvenating tired looking skin, as well as a number of other anti-stress techniques. Everyone manages their stress in different ways; however, we recommend kick starting your spring skin with a facial or body exfoliation. Both services include a deep exfoliation that allows new skin cells to generate and help restore moisture in the skin. InSpa facials are customized to individual skin-care concerns and cater to your goals as our products work on all skin-types. This allows for your current skin-care to work best and penetrate deeper into the dermis.
