The truth about lash extensions

Looking for a low maintenance beauty regimen? Read more to find out if lash extensions are for you.

Eyelash extensions have become increasingly popular over the past few years and are the current Hollywood craze. While there are many misconceptions about lash extensions and maintenance, we have the answers to many commonly asked questions. Anyone with existing lashes can wear these eye-enhancing extensions that create a thicker, darker, and fuller looking lash line. For many, this eliminates the need for eyeliner and mascara entirely.

Lashes come in different sizes, lengths and curls depending upon your desired look. Contrary to popular belief, they are low maintenance if cared for properly and can last up to three weeks. Lashes are applied directly to your natural lash with a safe adhesive to create a longer, more full appearance. Depending upon the preferred result, lash styles vary and your certified lash professional can help determine the type and length of lashes to apply.

The application process typically takes up to two hours where lashes are applied one at a time to your top row of lashes. After the initial full set of extensions, fills are required every two to four weeks to maintain any shed lashes. Lashes will naturally fall out every 60 to 90 days as part of your natural lashes growth cycle. When applied, a lash professional is unable to determine at which stage your natural lashes will shed. It is completely normal to experience shedding lash extensions as it is the natural lash it’s attached to that has completed the growth cycle.

Once your full set is completed, there are a few aftercare tips to take into consideration to get the best wear out of lashes. In order to ensure the glue will properly adhere to the lashes, we recommend avoiding direct contact with water 24 hours after application and to try and avoid sleeping on them. Using mascara will not be necessary with lash extensions, but if applied, should be used only at the tip of lashes rather than the base. This could cause them to be easily removed. It is also best to use an oil free makeup remover and gently sweep up and away from the eye rather than downward.

When and if you decide you are no longer interested in keeping your elongated, beautiful extensions there is a removal process available. We do not advise that anyone removes their own lashes, as it can be dangerous and potentially painful. There is also the option of letting the extensions fall out naturally, which may occur over a few months due to the duration of the lash cycle.

Many find their daily beauty regimen significantly shorter when wearing lash extensions and have received many compliments on their lengthy, natural looking lashes.
