Girl Hit In Renton School Zone In Critical Condition
The child was crossing a street near Benson Hill Elementary with their mother when they were both hit.

RENTON, WA - A child and their mother were hit by a truck Monday morning along while crossing in a crosswalk in a school zone near Benson Hill Elementary, and both suffered serious injuries. The child was taken to Harborview in critical condition, and the parent was taken there in serious condition.
According to police, a woman driving a pickup truck hit the two pedestrians while turning a corner at the intersection of 116th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 184th Street. Police reported that the driver stopped at a stop sign, but then turned into the crosswalk where the mother and child were walking.
"Follow up: Patients from this mornings vehicular accident are mother and child. Both are being taken to Harborview Medical Center. Medics are transporting the child in critical condition. Renton RFA is transporting the mother, who is injured but not critical, in tow. The Renton police department is currently investigating," Renton fire wrote in an update Monday morning.

The driver of the car remained at the scene of the accident, according to Renton police. Police closed 116th between Southeast 184th Avenue and Petrovitsky for a short time to investigate.
The scene of the accident was about two blocks northeast of Benson Hill Elementary. Patch has reached out to Renton Schools to confirm whether the child is a student there.
