One child and two adults were killed Tuesday morning as a massive fire swept through a Tukwila apartment complex.

TUKWILA, WA — Three people died and several others were injured Tuesday morning after a devastating fire ripped through a Tukwila apartment complex. Firefighters from around the region responded to a three-alarm blaze at the Maple Crest Apartments shortly before 6 a.m. Images shared on social media showed flames pouring from the building as fire crews worked to get residents to safety and treat the injured.

By late morning, fire officials confirmed the deaths of an adult and a child. Later in the afternoon, firefighters confirmed the death of a second adult and confirmed all victims were removed from the building. Five other residents that were previously missing were found safe. Nearly four hours after firefighting efforts began, officials said they were still unable to access the building to perform a full search, and portions of the roof had collapsed.

Fire crews also had to contend with a landslide in the area of the fire just and announced evacuations for neighboring apartments and businesses along Interurban Avenue South.
