2 Landslides Closes Maple Valley Highway: Police

Maple Valley Highway might be open for the Thursday evening commute, officials say.

RENTON, WA - Two landslides closed westbound lanes of Maple Valley Highway in Renton just east of the I-405 interchange Thursday morning.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, Renton Emergency Management said that the road could be open in two hours.

Throughout much of Thursday, city crews were working to clear trees and debris from the road. The westbound lanes were closed, but eastbound lanes were open as of 2 p.m.

The landslides happened near Classics Bar, southeast of the I-405 interchange. Westbound lanes were being diverted at 140th Way Southeast near the Maplewood Golf Course.

The two slides occurred within a short time in the same area. A Renton police officer reportedly narrowly missed getting hit by the second slide.
