2016 Election Breaks King County Voting Record

The number of ballots cast in 2016 was nearly double that of 2015.

RENTON, WA - King County voters turned in 1.05 million ballots in the 2016 election, a new record for the number of ballots submitted in a single election, according to reports.

That's close to double the 643,960 ballots submitted in 2015 - although that election was more subdued than 2016. Turnout overall was down, however, due to the addition of registered voters since last year.

The area with the highest turnout in King County - 87.7 percent - was Legislative District 36, which includes the Ballard, Queen Anne, and Magnolia neighborhoods in Seattle. Seattle had the next two highest voting districts with 86 percent turnout in Legislative districts covering downtown, South Lake Union, Fremont, the University District, and Wallingford.
