Judges critiqued the newsmagazine on content, design, editorial leadership and photography.

“I like that this issue has a broad range of stories including young people and alumni,” editor-in-chief Olivia Fry said. “It has something for everyone."

The issue included small vignettes of student obituaries, original photography, cartoons and alumni interviews.

Managing Editor Max Bureau said he thought the issue was special because it felt different from a normal newspaper.

"But we still contributed to the legacy of Renton High School. We wanted to leave something behind,” he said.

Two students won honorable mentions at the conference: Katie Reynolds, for editorial cartooning, and Mindy Saeteurn, for computer design (photoshop).
