Avoid I-5 In Seattle At All Costs This Weekend

Don't do this to yourself. Revive I-5 construction in central Seattle will make driving a nightmare this weekend.

SEATTLE, WA - Even if you don't live near Seattle, chances are you have to drive through it often, either on I-5 or I-90. This weekend, avoid trips through Seattle on both those highways at all costs ... unless you love sitting in traffic.

The "Revive I-5" project gets back underway this weekend. The repaving project will close several lanes and one whole big chunk of I-5 between Georgetown and downtown Seattle. The closures begin Friday night at 8 p.m., and the highway won't fully reopen until Monday at 5 a.m.

The biggest knot looks to be near the I-90 interchange. Traffic will be forced to get off I-5 at the exit for I-90 and the Madison/James exits. The stretch of I-5 where you pick up the express lanes will be closed going northbound.

This is just the beginning of Revive I-5 in the downtown Seattle area. Weekend closures will continue this summer. You've been warned.

The best alternative to get through downtown Seattle? Link light rail, biking, SR 99, or - ugh - taking I-405 all the way around.
