Faith, energy, mindfulness, focus and wisdom create integration.

Last week of Ustrasana as the focus pose in prAta Yoga.

I watch my students show up for class another morning, and I celebrate our faith in the practice. The week prior I had introduced Ustrasana, a deep backbend. Many did not move into the pose easily, nor experienced the joy of the pose I do.

Yet, they came back the following weeks, knowing Ustrasana would continue to be on the “menu” for the following 4 weeks. Faith- perhaps faith this too shall pass, perhaps faith this time will be different.

The subsequent weeks we energetically warmed up, opening the front of our bodies. We set a foundation, mindful of how we aligned our bodies, of engaging needed muscles, of releasing rigidity. We focused on re-patterning our bodies’ memory of what is possible.

We practiced moving into Ustrasana with different approaches, using the wisdom offered by others. Our own wisdom informed us of which method worked better for our body, of what brought integration of the whole. Our bodies, our minds, our breath joined in union and we practiced yoga.
