Trick-or-Treat!

Recapping trick-or-treat weekend in Renton

Happy Halloween! This weekend, we took the kids to two, yes TWO trick-or-treating opportunities in Renton - the in downtown Renton on Saturday and the on Sunday. There were hundreds of kids at both events and probably thousands of pieces of candy given out.  It's a good thing this only happens once a year, or else the kids of Renton would have a lot of rotten teeth!

My kids love the show Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, so this year they wanted me to make them costumes of the main characters Finn the Human and Jake the dog. (You can see tutorials on my blog for the Finn costume and the Jake costume). Since the show is relatively new, most people didn't know who they were. Those familiar with the show, though were happy to see them. My favorite comments came from a group of teen boys in downtown Renton who surrounded my son shouting sincerely, "YOU HAVE THE MOST AWESOME COSTUME EVER!!" At , we heard one kid say to his mom, "I didn't know they made Finn and Jake costumes!" My children enjoyed kids they'd never met before waving to them and saying, "Hi Finn!" and "Hi Jake!"

Thanks to all the businesses who happily handed out candy and all the volunteers who made the DTR party so fun. Activities like this are a great way to feel like a part of the community and to get to know your neighbors. Who knew Renton had so many pirates and princesses and fairies and witches and zombies roaming around?
