FEDERAL WAY, WA — One of the busiest firefighting days in recent memory continued late Tuesday afternoon as a brush fire sent smoke over Interstate 5 in Federal Way. The Washington State Department of Transportation shared two images from a traffic camera near South 333rd Street shortly after 5 p.m.

The fire closed two northbound lanes and one southbound lane of the freeway at South 320th Street. WSDOT said flames were also seen in the median.

The Federal Way fire comes on the heels of dozens of brush fires, wildfires and structure fires logged in Washington over the last 24 hours. Extreme fire conditions are expected to remain in place until at least Friday. The King County Fire Marshal issued a Stage 2 burn ban Tuesday, expanding the scope of prohibitions on all outdoor burning.
