SEATTLE, WA - A man who killed and dismembered a Renton mother in April 2016 was sentenced Friday to close to 28 years in prison. John Charlton, 38, murdered Ingrid Lyne's and then dumped some of her body parts in a recycling bin in Seattle's Central District neighborhood

Charlton pleaded guilty to Lyne's murder in October and his sentence is the maximum time in prison allowed under the law.

On the evening of April 9, 2016, a homeowner living along 21st Avenue in Seattle opened his recycling bin to discover three plastic bags, one that he could see contained a human foot. When police arrived, they opened the remaining bags and found Lyne's head, arms, and other body parts. Seattle police identified Lyne after checking missing persons reports.

Earlier that morning, Lyne's ex-husband had gone to her house to drop off their three young daughters. No one was home, but Lyne's car and purse were at the home. He called Renton police to report her missing.

Police later learned through one of Lyne's friends that she had gone to a Seattle Mariners game the previous night on a date. Searching a phone belonging to Lyne, police were able to find Charlton's phone number.

After searching Lyne's home, police found blood, empty boxes of garbage bags, and a pruning saw in her bathroom. Police arrested Charlton on April 11 in Lake Stevens. During an interview, he told detectives that he returned to Lyne's house so intoxicated that he could not remember what had happened.

Charlton had a criminal record in six states for crimes including battery, assault, grand theft auto, and aggravated robbery, according to Seattle police.
