Child Was Shot In Renton With Air Gun: Police

RENTON, WA — The 8-year-old boy shot at a park along the Cedar River on Memorial Day was hit with a pellet from a compressed air gun, police have determined. Renton police are now canvassing the neighborhood around the park to find where the shot came from.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. on Memorial Day at Riverview Park, which is just east of I-405 along Maple Valley Highway. The boy's mother noticed her son acting strange, and then found puncture wounds on his side. The boy was taken to a hospital in Bellevue, but was later transferred to Harborview. He is now recovering at home.

Renton police have been distributing a flier in the neighborhood near the park trying to find out if someone fired the shot by accident.

"We believe the child may have been shot by an air rifle. It is unknown if the child was targeted or if this was an accidental/inadvertent act," the flier reads.
