Covington Man Shoots Armed Car Prowler

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Thursday at a home south of Lake Youngs. Police are looking for other recent car prowl victims.

COVINGTON, WA — A homeowner shot an armed car prowler in a driveway at a Covington home early Thursday morning, although one of the thieves fled the scene and was still on the loose.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Thursday at a home along Southeast 250th Court, which is about a mile south of Lake Youngs. The 49-year-old homeowner heard his car alarm going off. He looked outside and saw two people trying to break in.

Feeling threatened, the homeowner fired a single shot at the two thieves. One of the prowlers was wounded, and found to be armed with a handgun — one that was stolen several days ago during a Kent car prowl. The second thief ran from the scene, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
