DC's Bar & Grill Does Downtown Renton Proud
DC's treats customers — and your wallet — right.
With a list of $5 sandwiches, burgers and salads, plus a daily extra-special special, DC's treats customers and your wallet right.
Rumor has it that the origin of this bar's name came from a truce between Dawgs and Cougs loving owners. There indeed are lots of televisions lit up around the bar, but a weekday lunch was mellow as can be. A great place for a spontaneous lunch date, with a sheet of $5 specials to choose from. Two lunch specials and two beers came to a measly $20.
Service was warm, despite the fact that the owner was covering for two sick employees. I explained to Pete that I'm a Hefeweizen fan, and asked for a recommendation off their rotating tap selections. He apologized for not having a Hefe to offer, but suggested American Blonde from American Brewing Company, made locally in Edmonds. Great call with no beer snobbery. My dining companion went for a Big Al Irish Red, also a Northwest microbrew, made locally in Seattle. Our pints were a reasonable $4.09 for craft beers.

DC's features 12 beers on tap "and are always rotating 4 to 5 handles to bring you the newest and best beers out there." The owner was thoughtful enough to steer us away from a 10% alcohol beer at lunch time... They also serve cocktails which might come in handy during their Comedy Night, every third Thursday of the month. But seriously folks, you can get a 3rd Street Stop Light ($7) with Midori, Pineapple, Cranberry and Orange Juice, Malibu rum, and Bacardi Silver layered in a pint glass. Sounds like a downtown Renton, cab-worthy drink to me.
There's a daily special, and Tuesdays, DC's regaled Reuben is only $5 at lunch time. Tasty, classic and cheap: clove-flavored corned beef is served atop grilled rye, sauerkraut, melted swiss and thousand island dressing with a New York-style dill pickle and a large side of handcut fries. My only complaint is that the "famous fries" were a little cold and wilted.

My dining companion ordered a Big Chicken Salad, also off the $5 lunch menu. This is indeed a sizeable dinner-sized salad with grilled chicken breast, shredded Cheddar cheese, croutons, chopped green peppers, tomatoes, and Romaine with your choice of dressing. It all looked hand-prepared which is impressive for a bargain bar menu. Their "#1 seller", the DC Burger with bacon is also $5 at lunch time.
DC's is a great spot to rendezvous for a drink on a , as it's across the street from and . And every third Thursday of the month is the popular Comedy Night, only $5 at 8 pm with first come, first served seating.
This isn't a sticky floor type of bar... Clean and friendly with a community vibe. DC's has a generous Happy Hour window on Monday's through Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. with $3 well drinks & micro drafts; $2 domestic drafts; $2 Chips and Salsa or Fries; $3 Caesar Salads, Cheese or Sweet Potato Fries; $4 Deep Fried Pickles, Quesadillas, Sloppy Sliders; $5 Nachos, Buffalo Wings, Jalapeno Poppers, and Chicken Skewers.
