Disaster At Renton Airport: Emergency Drill Happening This Week

You'll see lots of lights and sirens at the Renton Airport on Tuesday morning as the city and federal authorities conduct a disaster drill.

RENTON, WA - If you hear an unusual amount of commotion in Renton Tuesday morning, it's probably just a disaster at the Renton Municipal Airport.

Police, fire, and federal authorities will converge on the airport from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday for an emergency preparedness drill. Subsequent drills will happen on Wednesday and Thursday during the same hours.

The airport's runways and taxiways will be closed to air traffic during the drill. Some agencies participating in the training include Renton police and fire, Valley 911, the city of Renton, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

If you're interested in watching, there is a public airport viewpoint near the intersection of Rainier Avenue South and Nelson Place Northwest. Parking is limited.
