RENTON, WA — A ruptured gas line at a Renton construction site spurred students to evacuate Renton High School Tuesday morning, according to city officials. The Renton Regional Fire Authority and Puget Sound Energy responded to Whitworth Avenue South a few minutes after 10 a.m., finding a 1-inch break in a gas line. Firefighters said there was a gas odor in the area but all levels were safe for buildings in the immediate area.

According to the Renton Police Department, South 2nd Street was closed to traffic and the high school was evacuated as a precaution. All roads reopened shortly after 1 p.m.
