RENTON, WA - Eating fried fish on Fridays during Lent is a Christian tradition dating back hundreds of years, and the Good Friday fish fry is usually a big event, especially for Catholics. But no matter what religion you practice (or don't), fried fish is just plain delicious. Whether you're ending your Lenten fast or looking to explore a new restaurant, check out these 6 best bets for fried fish around Puget Sound.
Angel City Deli | 12621 Renton Ave S, Skyway, WA
This soul food and BBQ joint is tucked away in the back of a shopping plaza between Renton and Seattle. All the food is made fresh to order, including the incredible fried catfish, which you can get as a platter or sandwich. While you're at it, add a turkey leg as a side.
Beacon Avenue Shell | 2424 Beacon Ave S, Seattle, WA
Yes, this is a Shell gas station. But head inside and get a piece of fried catfish; it's wonderful. And if you're into it, they also sell fried gizzards and fried chicken.

Grill City | Westfield Southcenter, 1368 Southcenter Mall, Tukwila, WA
Grill City is located inside the Seadfood City market at the Southcenter Mall. You'll probably have to wait in quite a line, but it's worth it. Try a grilled (slightly healthier than fried, right?) stuffed bangu or tilapia. The fish is tender, and the sweet vegetable filling is the best stuffing this side of Thanksgiving.
Wally's Chowder House & Broiler | 22531 Marine View Dr S, Des Moines, WA
Wally's serves up traditional fish and chips, and it's delicious. But get your food to go and head down to the nearby City of Des Moines Marina for a lunch with a truly incredible view.

Steamer's Seafood Cafe | 8802 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA
Located on the border of Tacoma and University Place, Steamer's, like Wally's, serves traditional bread crumb (not beer batter) fried fish. It's affordable, delectable, and located in a beautiful spot with sweeping views of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
Jackson's Catfish Corner | 123 21st Ave S Seattle, WA 98122
This is the grandfather of all Puget Sound fried fish joints (specifically, friend CATFISH joints). Jackson's was founded in 1985 in the Central District at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Way and Cherry Street, but that location closed in 2014. The grandson of the founders, Terrell Jackson, reopened Jackson's along Rainier Avenue, but lost his lease. The newest location just opened in November, and it's as good as ever. The catfish is succulent and crispy, served with just a thick slice of lemon and a dollop of tartar. It's worth the trip to Seattle. After all, it's Good Friday.
