Gunfire At Southcenter Mall Food Court During Dispute: Police

Tukwila police responded to the Southcenter Mall around 9 p.m. Saturday on a report of shots fired.

TUKWILA, WA - At least one shot was fired inside the Southcenter Mall Saturday night, according to Tukwila police. The shot was fired in front of the Chipotle restaurant in the mall's food court, according to witnesses. The shot was fired at 8:45 p.m. after a dispute between two people, police said.

Police did not locate anyone injured by the gunfire.

Dozens of police and firefighters responded to the scene and placed the mall on lockdown. Some shoppers were sheltering in place inside stores. Witnesses described the busy food court area emptying as people fled.

The mall is located south of Seattle near the intersection of I-5 and I-405, and is one of the largest in the state. Retail stores at Southcenter close at 9 p.m., but the large movie theater and a handful of restaurants stay open as late as midnight.
