“There is luminosity, about the size of the palm of your hand, in the space at your heart center”. Yoga Sutra 1.36 gives another method of creating stability and equilibrium in our lives. “It does not matter what other thoughts, images, impressions or memories might arise”, the luminosity is always there.
When I was 6 and 7 years old, I spent summers living with my great aunt. Every day she would pack my lunch and in the box every day were sugar wafer cookies. Every night she would put me to bed by rubbing my back. 40 years later, I hold in my mind the unwavering stability of sugar wafers and back rubs that represent the equilibrium my great aunt brought to my life. I have turned my thoughts to her, which turns my thoughts to my own unshakeable Being and Love. There is the sanctuary within which I meditate, free from pain, sorrow, or turbulence.
