Community Snapshot: Last Chance Touchdown Spoils Renton's Homecoming Celebration
King Calvin Chan and Queen Hana Feseha announced.
Many who attended last night’s Renton Homecoming football game were unhappy and upset at the referees last night after a late penalty against Renton gave the Foster Bulldogs another chance to win the game.
Renton Head Coach Donald Ponds said Saturday after reviewing the video, Foster had the ball at the 50 yard line with six seconds left in the game. Their quarterback threw the ball and it was intercepted by Renton. The Renton player began to celebrate the interception with time still going; a Foster player slapped the ball out of the Renton player's hand to stop the clock.
However, a 'roughing the passer' was called against Renton despite the game clock at zero. A game cannot end with a penalty and Foster was allowed one untimed play. Foster quarterback Marquis Jackson found Gabe Gutierrez in the end zone. Ponds said there was no doubt Gutierrez got his feet in for the 27-26 win.

Another personal foul was called on several Renton assistant coaches after the game was called.
Ponds said, "emotions got the best of us, but I got the players and coaches back to shake Foster’s hands." It’s unclear if any discipline will happen to the coaches for the post-game penalty.

The Renton High student body, alumni and fans celebrated another Homecoming with a parade through downtown, a large tailgate party and honoring their Homecoming court at haltime in front of the largest crowd at Renton Stadium this season.
With the loss, the Indians are tied with cross-town rivals Lindbergh and Hazen entering the last week of the league season. Renton plays Hazen next Friday at 7 p.m. for the Highlanders Homecoming in what will be the biggest game of the season so far. Hazen has secured its 3A playoff spot along with league champions Kennedy Catholic. Renton needs to beat Hazen for the All-City Championship and secure the #2 2A spot. A loss and Lindbergh makes the playoffs in the #2 2A spot, Renton claims #3 spot and Bellevue’s Interlake High is in the #1 2A spot. Whoever claims the #3 2A spot will host a tiebreaker game on Tuesday, Nov. 1 against the Olympic League #4 Kingston. (Subject Seamount League and West Central District playoff tie breaker rules).
Add another mix: Hazen has to beat Renton by two points to claim the All-City Championship trophy. Lindbergh travels to Foster Friday night.
