Man With Knife Plucked From Roof Of Renton Hookah Lounge

With an assist from Renton fire, police officers were able to get the man down.

RENTON, WA - Renton police and firefighters mounted a rooftop rescue early Friday after a man climbed up onto the roof of a local hookah lounge.

Police responded the hookah lounge at 111 Airport Way, just east of Rainier Avenue, at around 3 a.m. Friday. The man was already up on the roof by the time police arrived, and they don't know how he got up there.

Renton fire responded with a ladder truck. Two Renton officers were hoisted up in a bucket to talk to the man. Although he was holding a knife, the officers did not have any trouble detaining him, according to Renton police Commander David Liebman.

The man will not face any charges. Police believe he was experiencing a mental health crisis, so he was taken to a medical facility.
