Monday Deadline For Online, Mail Voter Registration In Washington

After Monday, new voters can register in-person up until the very last minute on Election Day.

RENTON, WA — Monday marks an important deadline in the 2020 election season: it is the last day for prospective voters to register online or by mail in Washington.

As of Sunday night, nearly 42 percent of registered voters statewide had returned their ballots, handily outpacing 2016 participation with 10 days to go until Nov. 3.

Here are the top 10 counties for voter participation, by percentage (as of Oct. 24)

  1. Ferry County: 57.9 percent (2,973 ballots)
  2. Jefferson County: 55.7 percent (15,329 ballots)
  3. Columbia County: 55.6 percent (1,561 ballots)
  4. Pacific County: 52.9 percent (8,750 ballots)
  5. Thurston County: 49.8 percent (99,526 ballots)
  6. Spokane County: 48.4 percent (174,342 ballots)
  7. Pend Oreille: 48.2 percent (4,916 ballots)
  8. Lewis County: 47.7 percent (25,664 ballots)
  9. Island County: 47.4 percent (29,644 ballots)
  10. Mason County: 46.5 percent (20,332 ballots)

In the state's three most populous counties, King leads with 45.3 percent turnout (641,359 ballots), followed by Snohomish at 36.1 percent (185,296 ballots) and Pierce at 35.7 percent (200,306 ballots).

For those who still need to update their information or register for the first time, there are still a few hours left to do so remotely. After Monday, eligible voters can register in-person at an official vote center up until polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Vote centers allow residents to register, update current records, and receive any other assistance needed to cast their ballots.

To vote in Washington, residents must be:

  • A citizen of the United States
  • A legal resident of Washington state
  • At least 18 years old by Election Day
  • Not under the authority of the Department of Corrections
  • Not disqualified from voting due to a court order
