RENTON, WA — Health officials said Tuesday that a fourth confirmed case of measles has appeared in King County. In the most recent case, the person visited Sea-Tac Airport and the Valley Family Medicine clinic in Renton.

Health officials also said on Tuesday that the local measles cases likely stem from an unidentified person who was at Sea-Tac in the morning on April 25. Measles symptoms typically emerge between one and three weeks after exposure.

The case reported Tuesday is in a woman in her 30s, according to health officials. She visited Sea-Tac four times between May 10 and May 13. But King County officials said there's no current risk of catching measles by visiting the airport.

If you think you've been exposed, here are tips from King County health officials about what to do:

  • Find out if you have been vaccinated for measles or have had measles previously. Make sure you are up-to-date with the recommended number of measles (MMR) vaccinations.
  • Call a healthcare provider promptly if you develop an illness with fever or illness with an unexplained rash. To avoid possibly spreading measles to others, do not go to a clinic or hospital without calling first to tell them you want to be evaluated for measles.
  • Vaccination or medication can be given after exposure in some cases to prevent illness — check with your healthcare provider. This is especially important for people at high risk for measles complications.
