RENTON, WA β€” Just as the race for the Position 7 seat on Renton City Council was heating up, one candidate is making a switch to run for a different seat.

Position 3 Councilwoman Carol Ann Witschi announced last week on Facebook that she would not see reelection in 2019. Now, candidate Valerie O'Halloran is switching from the Position 7 race to Position 3, where she will face Max Heller for Witschi's seat.

"The past four years have been an amazing learning experience, and I am grateful for the trust you put in me to represent our great city. We really are ahead of the curve," Witschi wrote on April 16.

That swap leaves the Position 7 race wide open for candidate Kim-Khanh Van. Position 7 Councilman Don Person has also announced he won't seek reelection in 2019.

O'Halloran also announced a couple of heavy endorsements from Renton elected officials: Councilman Ed Prince and former Renton School Board president (and current mayoral candidate) Marcie Maxwell.
