In Renton's First 2018 Murder, 2 Seattle Men Arrested

RENTON, WA - Police have arrested two men in connection to the death of a man earlier this week. The men, ages 17 and 19, were arrested Thursday night along Martin Luther King Jr. Way South in Skyway.

Anh Phung, 29, of Renton, was found dead around 9 a.m. Sunday in a parked car near the Salvation Army Church, 720 S Tobin St. Phung died of a gunshot wound to the torso and his manner of death was ruled homicide, according to the King County Medical Examiner.

Police initially thought Phung died in a traffic accident. His single gunshot wound was discovered later, and police also found evidence of a shooting in a nearby parking lot.

The two suspects, police said, "implicated themselves" in Phung's murder. One of the suspects is being held in the King County Jail without bail, according to jail records.

Renton Sgt. Christine Matthews told KOMO earlier this week the murder might be related to a "drug deal gone bad." Police found marijuana in Phung's car, according to the report.
