Positivity Aids in Keeping Your Day On Track

A simple act can put your day in the negative at a moments notice. However, maintaining positive thoughts can keep you on the right track.

Many of us have noticed that lately the world is full of turmoil. Almost daily we are bombarded with reports regarding COVID, shootings, kidnappings, people losing control of their tempers and more. Knowing these facts recently put me on a mission to closely examine human behavior while I was out driving at different times during the day. I wanted to see what I noticed about human behavior, particularly when I was working towards keeping myself in a state of calmness. What I observed was shocking, and at times frightening.

People seeming appeared stressed prior to 7:30 a.m. and didn't seem to care who noticed. From the moment I backed out of my driveway, they were close up on the rear of my vehicle. Almost unwilling to pause and let me fully back out. Despite going the speed limit, people wanted me to move faster. One incident involved a person coming to a complete stop in front of me, and began driving in reverse, because they had missed their turn in to a driveway. When I looked confused at their actions, I was greeted by a slowly raised ET middle finger. I didn't know people still did that. Moving to get out of the way of those speeding only helped if everyone else was out of their way as well- drivers with the need for speed needed to pass everyone. The humorous part was despite their best efforts, they ended up next to me waiting at the light anyway.

Tight jaws were evident, near collisions, honking horns and more. Having a peaceful drive seemed almost non-existent. I found myself becoming guarded while attempting to protect myself from getting hit. Things were definitely different. Is it that fact that so much interaction was ceased during the pandemic, people have forgotten how to interact? Has common courtesy disappeared? I determined moving forward regardless of what was going on with everyone else, my goal was going to be to commence my days with positivity.

Whether it be a mantra (repetitive statement symbol, sound) to bring about an even toned feel, the long term effect of how your day can become impacted is priceless. I found several that proved beneficial to me.

1. I have control over how I feel, and how I will respond. I choose that which brings me peace and makes me feel safe.

2. I will help to take care of others when I can, but I will remember to always make myself a priority.

3. My path may not be for everyone, but I will walk my own and celebrate my successes along the way.

4. I am perfectly unique, and that is good enough.

5. I will commence each day with positivity.

6. When my limits are reached, I will ask for the support I need.

The direction of your day can start off on a good note, and become misguided quickly. However, you may have to continuously remind yourself that you are ultimately the one in control. Taking the necessary movements to make sure you start off on a positive path from the beginning is the first step.
