RENTON, WA — A rally against hate is planned Saturday after two turtles were found with swastikas painted on their shells at Renton's Gene Coulon Park this week. Renton Police said officers were made aware of the turtles on Tuesday and attempted to locate them unsuccessfully. Animal Control officers have monitored their usual sunning spots throughout the week, hoping to clean them up and check on their health.

A photo posted to the Renton Crime & Community Page garnered hundreds of comments, and other commenters shared photos of their own. According to the Renton Reporter, Saturday afternoon's rally was organized in hopes that the community can come together against hate and for better treatment of wildlife. The Seattle Times reports Renton Police are not actively investigating the incident itself, as painting turtles likely does not fall within Washington's animal cruelty laws.

Saturday Rally Against Hate
Saturday, 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
