Historically, King Conservation District elections have garnered low voter turnout, often falling below 1 percent. To boost participation last year, King County piloted an online system that allowed voters to cast ballots by computer or smartphone. The move garnered national headlines, and officials said successfully doubled voter turnout. The online option will remain in place for this election, and the county plans to mail more than 800,000 postcards to eligible households with information on how to vote.
