RENTON, WA - Renton Councilman Armondo Pavone will run for the seat being vacated by longtime Mayor Denis Law. Pavone is the third candidate to enter the race in advance of the May 17 candidate filing deadline.

Last week, two-term Councilwoman Ruth Perez jumped into the Renton mayoral race. Former state lawmaker and former Renton school board member Marcie Maxwell launched her campaign for Renton mayor in early 2019.

Pavone, a local restaurateur, first won a seat on City Council in 2013 and most recently won reelection in 2017.

Maxwell is still in the lead in terms of fundraising with about $33,000. Neither Pavone nor Perez have reported any donations yet.

In a Dec. 28 Facebook post, Law said he would step down at the end of 2019 after serving three terms.

"I can remember election night in November 2007, when it appeared that I would win the race for this office. And just a couple weeks later, I was sitting in the mayor's office suddenly responsible for over 700 employees, a $250 million dollar annual budget with about 56,000 citizens to serve," Law wrote in that post.
