Renton Dad Shot Daughter 6 Times In Fight Over Baby Gate
Wendell Wilson, 68, has been charged with first-degree murder for killing his daughter, Lila, at a Renton apartment on Monday.
RENTON, WA — The suspect in Monday's shooting homicide in Renton has been charged with first-degree murder for shooting his daughter after a dispute over a baby gate, according to the King County Prosecutor. Wendell Wilson, 68, "executed" Lila Wilson with her 1-year-old son nearby, the prosecutor says.
Renton police responded to the Brighton Ridge Apartments just before 5 p.m. on Monday on a report of a shooting. Inside, officers found Lila Wilson dead on a bedroom floor.
Wendell Wilson had called 911 to report the shooting, and immediately began telling police what happened. He said that his daughter wanted to block the entrance to a kitchen with a baby gate, but he disagreed. Wilson said his daughter "escalated" the fight, and got up in his face. She also threatened to move out of the apartment.

That's when Wilson decided to kill his daughter, according to court documents.
"I went and I got my gun and I shot her," he told police, according to documents. He told police that getting the gun was a "dominance thing" to win the argument with his daughter.

"Arguments, a lot of things get said, I just, threats get made, it got crazy," he continued.
The King County Medical Examiner determined that Lila Wilson was shot six times, including at least one shot at very close range to the side of her head. She was also shot in the torso and legs.
On top of the first-degree murder charge with domestic violence and firearm enhancements, Wilson is facing a charge of domestic violence assault for shooting in the presence of the Lila Wilson's son. He is being held on $2 million bail and has an arraignment scheduled for June 27.
