Renton Honors Firefighter, EMT & Civilian Of The Year

Fire Chief Mark Peterson announced the officer, firefighter, EMT and civilian of the year, in addition to the Fire Chief A. Lee Wheeler Community Service Award at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Lt. Craig Soucy earned Officer of the Year for stepping up to teach an Officer Development Academy class at the last minute when the original instructor had to cancel, Peterson said.

Soucy joined the Department in August 1992 and was promoted to Lieutenant in Jan.  2008 and is assigned to Station 17.

Ken Clinton received the Firefighter of the Year award for his exceptional service to the Logistics Division, Community Risk Reduction, Training and City Shops, Peterson said.

Clinton joined King County Fire District #40 in August 1992 and transferred to Renton in March 2008. He is assigned to Station 16.

Firefighter Luke Alvarado earned EMT of the year for his accurate patient care and reporting, and for mentoring younger members of the department, Peterson said.

Alvarado joined the Department in May 2004, is an active member of the water rescue team and is assigned to Station 12.

Chaplain Allen Folmar earned Civilian Employee of the Year and is the first recipient of the A. Lee Wheeler award. Chief Peterson said Folmar was nominated by his peers for his exceptional performance. 

“He unselfishly responds at all hours for victim support,” Peterson said. “He’s there when I need him.”
