Renton Man Involved In Fatal 9-Vehicle Pileup On I-5

At least 9 cars were involved in the pileup along I-5 near Grand Mound early Sunday morning, according to state police.

GRAND MOUND, WA - At least nine vehicles were involved in a pileup along northbound I-5 early Sunday morning, including a Renton man. One person died in the crash, which blocked the northbound lanes of I-5 for 11 hours Sunday. Traffic was diverted around the scene on surface streets.

The crash happened around 3:50 a.m. near milepost 95, according to Washington State Patrol. The incident began after an initial collision caused seven following vehicles to crash. A 61-year-old man from Rochester driving a 2011 Hyundai Accent died in the crash. In addition, three semitrailers were involved in the crash.

Following that, at 9 a.m. two more vehicles crashed near milepost 87 when an impaired driver hit another vehicle that was stopped due to the traffic jam.

Chan Kinkason, 47, of Renton, was involved in the initial crash, but was not injured, according to Washington State Patrol.
