Renton Neighborhood Evacuated During Motor Home Standoff: Police

The incident unfolded Sunday morning in the Benson Hill area of Renton.

RENTON, WA - The resident of a motor home in south Renton was engaged in a standoff with police for several hours Sunday. The standoff happened after police responded to a report of an assault. Homes nearby the motor home in the Benson Hill neighborhood were evacuated, according to Renton police.

The incident began around 8 a.m. Sunday when police responded to a home at 11400 Southeast 180th Place on a call of an assault. The suspect, age 49, lives in a motor home behind the house at that address. The suspect allegedly assaulted the 47-year-old resident of the home, and then pointed what appeared to be a gun at him.

When police arrived, the suspect went inside the motor home and refused to come out. The Valley Special Response Team, which is comprised of officers from Renton, Kent, Tukwila, Auburn, and the Port of Seattle, responded to handle the situation.

The suspect eventually agreed to come out and was not injured, but he was arrested. Police found an air pistol in the home, but no signs of an actual gun.
