RENTON, WA — A Renton officer shot and killed a man inside Cheers Bar and Grill late Saturday night. The victim was waving a knife at people on the street outside the bar before he went outside and stabbed someone, police said.
Renton police responded to the bar along Williams Avenue at around 10 p.m. on a report of someone outside Cheers waving a knife. An officer followed as the man walked inside Cheers and stabbed one person. That's when the officer opened fire, killing the man with the knife.
Police released few other details, except to say no officers were hurt, and the stabbing victim was taken to a local hospital. Police said investigators independent of the department were called in to investigate the shooting.
